US Open- Federer Hit Magic Shot to Beat Djokovic in Semifinals
After an unbelievable year, world No. 1 player Roger Federer attained his sixth consecutive final at the US Open after beating the Serb Novak Djokovic in the semifinals 7-6(3), 7-5, 7-5. The Swiss player made an incredible shot between his legs just at the end of the third set in the 12th game, with the score at 6-5. Federer then hit another great shot to close the match with a 7-5. The victory marks the third for Federer over Djokovic in the semifinals. In the 2007 finals, Federer won in straight sets, while in 2008, Federer won the match in four sets. The match began as a tie between the two players; both were determined to win the game and qualify for the championship. By the end of the game, however, Federer’s natural abilities and unbelievable game proved superior to the Serb’s. During the first set, both players exchanged good points, with neither able to break the other’s serves. The set went into a tiebreak, closely won by Federer 7-6. In the second set, Federer and Djokovic again faced an impasse; neither could break serve, although Federer led 6-5. In the 12th game, Djokovic had various opportunities but failed to take advantage of them, giving Federer the second set 7-5. The third set initially seemed a repeat of the first two; Djokovic was playing well but not well enough to take advantage of important opportunities, while Federer continued to play consistently. Then, Djokovic hit a difficult shot at the left corner of the baseline. Federer managed to hit an unbelievable winner, taking the shot between his legs. Afterward, Djokovic seemed shaken, losing the next point. Federer took the match, raising his arms to celebrate his triumph with the crowd. The stands let loose, with people leaping to their feet and clapping enthusiastically for the tennis master. With the shot, Federer guaranteed a place in his 17th Grand Slam final. Federer, who of course expressed his pleasure at moving into another final, also said that his playing style has relaxed, especially after such an extraordinary season. “I have a little bit less pressure to prove myself after reaching the 15 Grand Slams everyone was talking about and I also I won in Paris. Getting through the pregnancy with my wife Mirka and having two beautiful daughters is also something that relaxes you for sure. But at the same time when you walk out on center court there will always be a certain type of pressure which will be there for the rest of my career,” stated Federer. The Swiss player also said that his final shot was one of the best in his life. “I think it was the greatest shot I have ever hit in my life. I have hit some good ones over all the matches I have played but I think this one, especially under the circumstances at love 30-up and with having chance to maybe clinch the match, was amazing.” In the final, Federer will be facing the Argentine Juan Martín del Potro , who upset Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.
