US Open – Men’s Semi Final

He’s done it again. Fed has defeated Novak Djokovic in a 2 hour and 34 minute epic, 7-6, 7-5, 7-5. The world number one will play for his sixth consecutive U.S. Open championship and 16th Grand Slam title on Monday against Juan Matin del Potro.

The match was tight as Djokovic was only broken in the last games of the second and third sets. The match came to a climax on Djokovic’s serve at 0 – 30. Federer was brought to the net by a Djokovic drop shot, then lobbed over his head. Federer was at full stretch running back and did his trademark between the legs forehand and hit a clean winner to take it to 0 – 40 and match point. He needed only one point to complete the win, which he did in style with a beautiful forehand winner.

After watching the between the legs shot after the match, Federer exclaimed, “That’s unbelievable.”

He later stated that it was the best shot he’s ever hit.

“In these moments he comes up with some great shots,” Djokovic said. “That shot. You heard the crowd. What can you say? You say well done. Too good. What can you do?”

You have to feel for Djokovic who was dismissed in the same round by the same man, last year in the U.S. Open. He won’t let this get him down, it’s an opportunity to train harder, get stronger, get faster and hopefully break through this superman Roger Federer.

Roger Federer has all guns blazing heading into the final with a 6 – 0 win loss ratio against del Potro.
